The first English dictionary was completed by -

প্রথম ইংরেজি অভিধান A Dictionary of the English Language সম্পন্ন করেন Dr Samuel Johnson। এ কারণে তাঁকে Father of English Dictionary বলা হয়।

Johnson-এর প্রধান রচনা:

• Dictionary (1755)
• The History of Rasselas, Prince of Abyssinia (1759)
• Preface to Shakespeare (1765)

তিনি Age of Sensibility (1745-1798)-এ প্রভাবশালী ছিলেন, তাই এই যুগকে Age of Johnson বলা হয়। তিনি William Shakespeare-এর একজন বিখ্যাত সমালোচক।
